The Growing Dome as a Home Sanctuary
My Home Sanctuary provides a place of peace and solace, that is away from the ring or the buzz of the house, and always provides the wonders of Nature. For example, after a very fruitful gardening time in summer and fall of 2004, someone left the door open, on a night when it was very cold in December, and I lost almost everything in our Growing Dome. I was so despondent to lose the color and beauty of my plant "friends", I didn't go in there for three months. (Decided to let it rest, while I kept up our demonstration dome at the shop.) Imagine my surprise when I went in on February 25th, to find these little happy pansy faces smiling at me. As I watered the beds to prepare for planting, all kinds of volunteers (baby plants) came up. The primrose was in full bloom even with three feet of snow outside, and no maintenance! There were strawberries, pansies, parsley, various greens and lots of miners lettuce, all coming up on their own. What a joy! ![]() Although Udgar is the experienced "gardener" in our family, I have had the privilege of growing all year round in a Growing Dome for fifteen years now. I thought it might be interesting to share the perspectives of a "beginner" as progress in my experience with the Growing Dome, as for me the space is more of a Sanctuary away from my busy life, and doesn't need successful plants to be valuable. I read a wonderful gardening book by Lauri Brunton and Erin Fournier, called
"Sanctuary" in which they say: "A sanctuary garden may take many forms, the mood of each space determined by the needs of its maker. A passionate garden breathes energy into our spirits with heady fragrances and striking colors."Having had this experience, even without my design
or planting, I am ready to go for it again this spring!
